Frequently Asked Questions

Why was my application denied?

App Denial

At Anna's Pet Care Fund, we strive to assist as many pets and their owners as possible. However, there are certain circumstances under which we may not be able to provide financial assistance. Some common reasons for denial include:

  • Non-Emergency Conditions

    • Our fund is specifically reserved for emergency situations where immediate veterinary care is necessary to save a pet's life or prevent surrendering ownership. Unfortunately, we cannot provide assistance for routine or non-urgent treatments.

  • Chronic Conditions

    • While we understand that chronic conditions can be challenging, our focus is on acute medical emergencies. We encourage you to explore other financial support options for ongoing or long-term care needs. For additional resources, please click here.

  • Poor Prognosis

    • In cases where a pet has a poor prognosis, and treatment is unlikely to result in a significant improvement in quality of life, we may be unable to provide funding. We recommend discussing alternative options with your veterinarian to determine the best course of action.

  • Lack of Proof of Denial for Care Credit or Scratchpay

    • To qualify for assistance, we require that owners exhaust all other options for financial assistance, including applying for Care Credit and Scratchpay. If this documentation is not provided, the application will be denied.

  • Incomplete Application

    • We require all necessary documentation and information to be provided to process an application. If an application is incomplete or missing key details, it will be denied.

  • Lack of Funds

    • Due to the limited resources available, we may not be able to assist every applicant, especially during times of high demand. We encourage you to seek other funding sources if we are unable to help at this time. For additional financial resources, please click here.

  • Non-Partner Veterinarian

    • Our fund works directly with a network of partnering veterinarians. If the pet is not being treated by one of our partners, we may not be able to offer financial assistance. We suggest discussing this with your current veterinarian or seeking care with one of our partners.

  • Other

    • There may be other circumstances that prevent us from providing assistance, such as situations outside the scope of our mission or guidelines. In such cases, we will provide an explanation and, if possible, direct you to alternative resources.

What are the requirements for approval of funding?

Approval Requirements
Money Towards Pet's Care

To qualify for financial assistance, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Urgent, Treatable Condition

    • The pet must be facing a serious, urgent medical condition that is treatable. Without financial assistance, this condition would likely result in euthanasia or the owner surrendering the pet to a rescue or shelter.

  • Denial for Care Credit and Scratchpay

    • We require that owners exhaust all other financial avenues before applying to our fund. This includes applying for CareCredit and Scratchpay. Proof of denial from these options must be provided with the application.

  • Owned Pet

    • The patient must be an owned pet. We are unable to provide assistance for stray animals, fosters, or pets currently in the care of rescues or shelters.

  • Good Prognosis

    • The pet must have a good prognosis, meaning there is a strong likelihood of recovery or improvement with treatment. If you are uncertain about your pet's prognosis, please consult your veterinarian. We focus on cases where our support can make a significant, positive difference.

  • Treating Veterinarian

    • The pet must be under the care of a veterinarian within our partnership network. Our partnerships ensure that we work closely with veterinary professionals who are familiar with our mission and guidelines. For a list of Anna's Fund's partnering veterinarians, please click here.

  • Permission for Public Sharing

    • As part of our commitment to transparency and raising awareness, we require that owners allow us to share the patient's story, including their name, photo and/or video, on our social media platforms and in our advertising materials. We do not share owner information. This helps us generate the necessary support to continue our mission.

How much money do I have put towards my pet's care?

Exceeding the tx plan
  • The amount that owners are required to contribute towards their pet's treatment can vary depending on the specific case. While we do ask for some financial contribution, the exact amount will be discussed with you as part of the process.

What if my pet's treatment plan exceeds what Anna's Fund can contribute and I can't afford the remaining balance?

  • We operate within a set budget, both monthly and per case. If your pet's treatment plan exceeds what we are able to contribute, it is the owner's responsibility to cover the remaining costs. We encourage you to speak with your veterinarian about exploring options for reducing the cost of treatment. Our partnering veterinarians are often willing to collaborate with both the owner and our fund to find a solution that fits within our available resources.

Tx Plan Costs Less $

What if my pet's treatment plan costs less than what Anna's Fund has agreed to contribute?

  • If your pet's treatment ends up costing less than the amount Anna's Fund has agreed to contribute, we will only cover the actual cost of care. Any remaining funds will be directed towards helping the next pet in need.

What kind of illness/injuries are eligible for funding assistance?

  • We provide assistance for a broad range of conditions, including but not limited to: foreign body surgeries, pyometras, enucleations, amputations, toxin ingestions, and certain hospitalizations for treatable conditions. To qualify for funding, the patient must have a good prognosis. If you are uncertain about your pet's prognosis, please consult your veterinarian. For specific case inquiries, feel free to reach out to us via email or apply directly.

Why doesn't Anna's Fund cover chronic conditions?

Chronic Condition Coverage
Eligible Conditions
  • Anna's Fund focuses on providing urgent, life-saving assistance for pets facing immediate crises. Due to our limited resources, we prioritize cases where our funding can have a direct and immediate impact on saving a pet's life and keeping families together. Chronic conditions, while important, often require long-term care that falls beyond our capacity to support. We encourage owners to explore other resources for managing chronic conditions and are happy to provide resources on programs and organizations that may be able to help.

Complication Coverage

Does Anna's Fund cover additional care, including complications, ongoing care costs, and follow-up needs related to a funded procedure?

  • Anna's Fund typically cannot cover additional care needed after a funded procedure. Before treatment, owners are required to sign a consent form that outlines the risks associated with any procedure, acknowledging that complications may occur. It is crucial to follow all post-operative care instructions closely to help prevent these complications. While we focus on providing initial, life-saving assistance, ongoing care costs fall outside of the scope of our funding. However, we will do our best to connect you with other resources that may be able to assist with ongoing care. If you have any concerns about your pet's recovery, please contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.

Spay/Neuter

Why does Anna's Fund require my pet to be spayed/neutered before or during a funded procedure?

  • Requiring spay and neuter procedures is a crucial aspect of responsible pet ownership and plays a significant role in addressing overall pet health by reducing overpopulation, preventing health issues, mitigating behavioral issues, and contributing to community health. By making these procedures a priority, we can support a better quality of life for pets everywhere.

Application Deadline

Is there a deadline for applying for assistance after my pet is diagnosed?

  • Applications should be completed immediately, ideally while you are still at the veterinary hospital, as we fund urgent, life-saving procedures. In some cases, a condition may be life-threatening, but the pet is stable at the moment. In such situations, owners should apply as soon as possible, but always before any treatment begins. Please note that we do not offer reimbursement for treatments that have already been completed, as we require an estimate/treatment plan before approving funding.

Covered Cost

Does Anna's Fund cover the entire cost of treatment, or just a portion?

  • Anna's Fund will contribute as much as possible within our budget, but any remaining costs are the owner's responsibility. We also require owners to contribute a portion of the treatment cost, which varies by case and will be discussed with you upon approval. We encourage owners to discuss their financial situation with their veterinary team, as they can often adjust the estimate to ensure appropriate care at the lowest possible cost, especially when working with our partner veterinarians. If additional funding is needed, our Resources section provides information about other organizations that may be able to assist.

Preventative Care

Does Anna's Fund help with spaying/neutering or preventative care?

  • Anna's Fund is dedicated to assisting with urgent, life-saving treatments and does not cover spaying, neutering, or other forms of preventative care. However, our Resources section includes information on low-cost spay/neuter programs and preventative care services that may be helpful.

Nonsurvival Payment

What if my pet doesn't survive treatment? Do I still have to pay the amount I committed?

  • We understand how heartbreaking it is to lose a beloved pet, especially after pursuing life-saving treatment. While every effort is made to ensure a positive outcome, there are inherent risks with any procedure, and sadly, not every pet survives. In these situations, it is still necessary to fulfill the financial commitment made prior to treatment, as the veterinary team dedicated their time, resources, and equipment to try to save your pet's life. We deeply sympathize with your loss and appreciate your understanding.
